There has been this strange betta male at my LPS for at least three weeks now. He didn't have long fins so I guess no one wanted him. I've been watching him the last couple of days, expecting him to be gone the next time I came in but no, he was still there today. Well I finally gave in and bought him. I'd never seen his tail type in a LPS before, and I still have no clue what kind of little betta this guy is. Can anyone help? I thought he was a spade tail at first, then maybe a delta. But I have no clue.

His dorsal fin usually goes up a tad bit higher and his anal fin spreads a bit more, his cadual also spreads a teeny tiny bit more. And his vental fins look like he has little red legs with white booties. Anyone know or give a guess?

EDIT: When his fins are spread full, closer to his body his fins go a tan color with black dots down the centers of each fin. I'll try and get a pic of it.

To me he looks like a vt, maybe with some finnage issues in the past. I'm not sure though, but that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw him~ Maybe someone else has a different thought though.

Looks to either be a lower end delta or a round tail, which imho is a lower end delta with a fancy name.

And by lower end I don't mean that as in unwantable or undesirable..I mean as far as the spread goes it's on teh lower end of the spectrum (where HM is at the top).

The red on his ventrals is called redwash.

He looks like a pretty guy.

I'd say round tail/fan tail.

You can tell cuse there's no definate point to the tail.

Have a look at the round tail here and let me know what you think:

Which is a fin type in it's own right. As I say it doesn't have the defined points a delta has, it has a round fin, and is every bit as desirable as a spade tail IMO. I have a round tail PK, and she's as lovely as my HMPK.

We have a fair number of those "round tails" sold here... I think they are under developed crowntails and combtails. Might grow rays when it gets older.

Definately not a HM...as they show up pretty young.

This is Hia @ 3 months old..you can clearly see he is a HM.

I looked at the roundtail page and to me it doesn't seem to fit since it says that it is much wider at the end, than at the base, and obviously that isn't the case here. But, it does mention the quality of the line, so that may certainly be the case here if he was pet store bought. Other than that, I am stuck, never seen one quite like itl. It seems like a mixture of a few things to me

My female (Mercedes) looks very similar to your mystery fish. I can't decide if she's a delta tale or a plakat.

He's got some slight combing, but I'd say either delta or super delta. Depends what he looks like when he flares :)
