Just ordered my new 800 ltr (english) tank and fancied a change in substrate a currantly have small black gravel but my two oscar's tend to scoop it up and spit it across the tank and it doesn't look to nice so what do you guy's use ? pic's if possable Many thanks

I use play sand with my O. He still digs and re-arranges things though (I don't think any substrate would stop him). i don't have a current pic, but here's how it looked a few months ago:

I use a wide range of substrates for my tanks. in my midas tank its river gravel, in the Festae tank its play sand and in my other tanks its just normal brown and white gravel mix that was picked up at a LFS.

I was using sand for my Oscar for awhile. Then I noticed a smell beginning to manifest itself. I had been moving the sand around, but anaerobic bacteria was still finding its way around the tank. So...I got rid of it, in favor of medium sized river rock, which is naturally colored. It's the next step above gravel, plus some bigger rocks thrown in for good measure. :) He seems to like it, even though he can't dig to China like he used to.

In my barb tank, and my Convict Cichlid tank, I'm using standard gravel with no issues. The barbs have blue (a combo of blue and lt blue) and the convicts have a black and red mix. :)
