Okay, attached is a picture I took of Mason earlier today. The quality isn't the highest, but you can see the tail well enough.. He seems to have ripped the edge of the upper part of his tail or its just weird, but anyway, that "broken" bit is a part of his tail.

Opinions on span? He started to flare up wider than he had done before, now I'm not sure if he meets HM requirements in the span or not. (Yeah, I'm hoping. But still ;P)

I'm a perfectionist, so I wanted other opinions. And my level of geometry sucks, so I can't tell degrees too well.

Thanks

i would class it as super delta as the anal fin is too long. idealy, the caudal, dorsal and anal fins should "fit" inside a circle to consider it halfmoon.

to quote atison; "A true Halfmoon must have a caudal spread of 180 degrees not less and not more. A perfect Halfmoon must have the upper most and the lower most rays of the caudal straight and not curved. The branching should start at the very beginning of caudal peduncle".

i know a lot of people would call your fish "halfmoon" but in honesty, it should be classed as "super delta".

lovely fish nonetheless ;)

I knew he wasn't a "perfect" one by anymeans.. I was just wondering if he fit the "we suck and don't have show quality HMs" HM category :)

Don't let Mason hear me say that, or he'll get cranky... >.> "I upped myself 10 degrees for you, and you call me SUCKY?"

Hes still precious, though, either way ^____^

The fish would be a super delta. Not because of the anal, which has nothing to do with HM or not. A good anal and dorsal just helps with the symetrics of the fish, which helps it to score higher. The reason it is a super delta, is because the edges of the caudal spread 180, but the upper corner turns towards the caudal, and is not straight. The upper corner is rounded as well. and you want it to be sharp. The bottom of the caudal is closer to what you want. The fish is not a bad fish at all. The upper part of the caudal is the only really weak area.It has a heavy dorsal. The anal is too long, but most anal fins do not conform to ideal symetrics. By breeding it to a really good female, you stand a chance of getting some very nice offspring. The female throws more of the genes to produce finnage, as the male throws the color. This is not 100%, but for the most part it is how it works.

On the Advanced Bettas website on MSN groups, is a link"Understanding HM finnage."
It shows everything you need to know to determine the finnage of your fish, and how to know a good HM. It has pictures and drawings with arrows to make everything very clear. It shows faults, as well as whats needed to show quality fish. The url is http://groups.msn.com/AdvancedBettas/_whatsnew.msnw
I hope seeing these pictures will help with understanding HM's.
