I am planning a new tank, got background and sand ordered. Just saving a bit more for the tank itself. Getting a 120L. Hoping to get a few more fish to go with my 6 platy, 1 betta and 4 minnows. Any ideas of fish that will go well with these?? I will be using my 60L as my platy fry tank once this new tank comes :)

Edited to add species I would like, and to say I just ordered the tank (with help of mums credit card  )

Please let me know whether you think these are compatible with my current fish :good:

Dwarf Gourami (if I can find them at any lfs)
Angels
Corys
Neon Tetra
Black Phantom Tetra

Not sure what else I can think of that wouldn't be too big to EAT my already fish

Since you are moving above 30G you could ask the question of whether the height of the tank is 17" or more and if it is you could think about a pair of angels. Another type of fish missing from your current species is some sort of tetra shoal - but be careful to work with the members to try and understand which tetras will be more gentle. Another possibility are the various types of corys. If you are in your first couple of years of fishkeeping it is a good idea to stay close to the rough one inch guideline (or less, since you have the platies and fry have a very high metabolism, meaning they can count in the bioload more than one might think.)

In the end it is always better to visit the shops and sources you have and form some potential likes and then put those possibilities out here in your thread and let the members help you with the various problems they see. It works better that way around. Don't be too quick to decide - there can be a big payoff from taking your time and slowly working on refining your stocking plan!

Thank you :) The tank height is 45cm, so 17-18 inches!! There were some gorgeous baby angels at the lfs, wasn't sure I could put them in with my platies?? Awesome if I can, they are beautiful fish!!

hi laura,

not sure that angel fish might be a good idea. they can be a bit aggressive and nippy and don't think they would mix well with your betta especially. they also appear to get MUCH bigger than you would expect!! i could be wrong though as i haven't ever kept them myself!! maybe someone on here could advise better on this point?? i agree with waterdrop. i think your tank would look brilliant with a nice, largeish shoal of tetras and a group of corys. just remember both corys and tetras should be kept in groups!

look forward to hearing what you decide on! as above, post a list on here of what you might like and i am sure we will all be able to help with compatability, stocking issues etc. good luck

We've had a single angel in with platys and never had a problem. We also have a shoal of black skirt tetras in there.
