My current set up is a 30ltr tank with some small live plants and 4 odessas 4 roseys 1 golden sucking loach and a flying fox all of which are around the 1 inch or less size, once christmas has come and gone i intend on getting a larger tank but sticking with the same fish just more barbs. any ideas on what size would be good for these types of fish and what sort of layout?

Odessas are quite active fish, so you really need at least a 3-foot long tank minimum, ideally 4-foot once they approach adult size of ~7cm. Given yours are surprisingly small (local ones to me always seem to much closer to ~5cm), they should be fine until Xmas if need be, but there are constantly bargain used tanks to be hand on Ebay and Aquarist Classified everyday... For example, I won Nelly's old 540l tank and stand for £51 in the summer!

Odessas, especially the males, do get boisterous as they get older. Consequently, you could really do with getting some more, so that you have 8-10 in total (with at least two females to every male).

Edit: Just spotted Rosy Barb in your list, you will need a 4-footer I feel. These will need a slightly bigger group too and given their low temp requirements, you need to keep the water at 20C...
