But 300 wattt heater a bit of an overkill, maybe it will cook your fish. :hey: A 200 watt heater is absolutely fine

kiriyama, by how much do you need to heat up the water? Most heaters say on the back which wattage you need for which volume given the temperature rise required. For example, my house is warm, so 1 watt per litre is enough for me to get to about 22-23°C. I have had heaters break before, so I pick lower wattage hears as opposed to higher.

Personally, I would not take anything over 200w for your tank if it is an average house.

300 watt thats what
i use

Agreed, get a quality 300W heater and you'll be fine. I'm getting a Fluval E-300 this week for my 4' 240L

any they are the same price on a very well know auction site, £23.99 delivered by aquacadabra

the thing is you have a small heater it is
working all of the time which means higher
electric bills bigger heater the less time it
is on a 300 Watt heater is more near were
you need to be if i was going to be pedantic
you would need a 275 watt heater and seen as they
don't do 275 watt heaters 300 is nearer to 275
than 200 so i would say 300 watt heater

The electricity bill would be higher for the 300 watt than the 200 watt because don't forget a 300 watt heater uses more energy than a 200W.

yes but it has to work all the time
to maintain that temp were a 300 works
less saying on bills

All I'm saying is that there is no need to purchase a 300W heater when a 200W works perfectly fine and in the long run will be cheaper.

so a heater that is on all the time
is more economical than a heater that
is not i have been keeping fish for 30yrs
and never had any problems you always air
on the side of been overpowered not underpowered
would you under filter a tank no so why under heat
and cost your self more any way that's my view and it woks for me
it doesnt matter what comment i make any way

They are equally efficient and will use exactly the same amount of electricity per day. That's that the "watt" part means.

The difference is only in the length of time which the heaters will take to get the water to a specific temperature.
