Ok, out of the blue, my mom told me i could maybe get a snake. totally surprised me, cause shes scared of them. So i was wondering, what should i get? I have a little experience with anoles, and lots of experience with frogs, i like pacman toads, are they easy to care for? One of the cool things about snakes, is that they dont need to eat much. SO what would you guys do? A snake? If so, what kind? Or another reptile? What kind?

Once a suggestion is made, can you please tell me how hard/expensive care is, and how often i need to feed them? I have access to worms, and grasshoppers around my house too.... A lot of them, we have a rather large yard.

Pics would be nice too....

I personally love bearded dragon lizards, they have this I dunno guess its intelligence to them. They always watch you and are just such laid back relaxed lizards just hanging out. They eat crickets, mealworms and other live insects but need a diet mainly of veggies. Larger enclosures are better for them with 6-8 square feet of floor so they have room to move around. They also need heat lamps as their cold blooded. Theres heaps of info on the net bout them. It can be expensive for set up, as you need to buy the enclosure, heat rocks, heat lamps etc, but care dosnt cost much, regular feeding, veggies, insects, raw egg now and then.

If you get a snake, I've always liked childs pythons, or childrens python, cant remember what it's called, but they are absolutely awesome. I wouldn't know bout caring for them though, we have enough wild snakes around here with out getting a domesticated one.

thanks for the reply, i cant afford that muc ground space for a lizzard though. anyone else?

Get some sort of chilled out lizard that you can actually hold, and I guess ''play with''.

Bearded dragons are pretty cool, but they do grow kinda large..

What about a leopard gecko? I believe they stay smaller then bearded dragons.

I personally get nervous around snakes.. Too unpredictable for me.

Snake: garter snake, although overlooked frequently, they make great pets if tamed and stay relatively small compared with most snakes on the market, or look for " ringneck " snakes. They stay small and are very unique.
Lizard: If you want to hold it and want it to stay small: Leopard gecko, very friendly and docile, and stay small. If you can get a 55g then go with a beardy, one of the best pet lizards IMO, very tame and personable, great lizards. Also trustworthy if tamed right. If you have plenty of room then maybe a tegu.. hehe, but a 6ft+ cage is needed.
If you aren't interested in holding I'd go with a tokay or 2, very pretty lizards that don't need much. Anoles are a no IMO, they need special lighting and crap, avoid them as most are wild caught I hear (3$ for the lizard, over 100$ for the setup..)

id definutly get either a chameleon lizard or a corn snake
i want both oneday

thanks a lot guys. What kind of snakes does ur bro breed? IS it easy? I my mom wouldnt let me set up another 55 gallon i dont think. =( I love leapard geckos, ill look into them, and much much room does a water dragon need? I also like them. can they be tamed? Can chameleons be tamed? I love 'em, but they're expensive.

Water dragons are kinda fast, and they have sharp claws.. I was not a fan of them really. I would definitely go leopard gecko or bearded dragon.

If its your first Invert/Amphi/Reptile try to get something that is easy to take care of ;)

chameleons can be tames if by that u mean can you hold them and stuff then yea
there great might be gettin one soon for £70
but i know somone that has one and ive held that one and had it sitin on my shoulder wen watchin tv lol

no i've kept plenty of treefrogs and such, even kept a brood of tadpoles especielly for a protein diet for my breeding fish. I kept snoles, but didnt know much so they only lived about a year and a half. I like leapard geckos, ill look into it.

my brother has a lepord gecko its cool tho but not the best thing in the world
he just hides in his cave al day apart from feeding
i def think chameleons are better

i would look into a uromastyx- not sure if its spelled right. these are fairly easy to keep if your willing to put a little care into them. i had one once but had to give it away for certain reasons(none to do with the lizard) it has a spiny tail and the head of a bearded dragon. i think they are quite interesting creatures. do your research on them though. they are vegetarians and dont require crickets although they do eat them. if i were you i would look into these guys, i kept bearded dragons as well and i prefer the uromastyx. ive also kept water dragons and lepoard geckos. come to think of it ive kept almost every reptile in the book. anyway, i believe the other name for them is spiny tail lizard? not sure though, dont quote me on that. good luck in your decision :good:
