Grr. just been to the lfs found a great puffer and want some info on it i forgot to take a pic of the name.

heres a quick description:-

is Yellow and Green and says gets to 6"/15cm its underneeth was a white colour with white fins.

i would go back and get the name but its quite a way away. maybe i could go soon but want info 1st! :)

if anyone has any ideas then please leave a comment. but also its defonatly not a figure 8 puffer.

Was it in a brackish tank? Fresh water? Tiny bit more info. needed.

Though maybe a GSP (green spotted puffer) or SAP (South American puffer)?

google image search

tetraodon fluviatilis
tetraodon nigroviridis

and

colomesus asellus

It will most likely be one of those 3.

Most LFS have GSP and Fig8's. The 6" size suggests GSP or possibly even a Cylon Puffer. All of the above are brackish but with the GSP and Cylon requiring full marine saltwater environment at adulthood.

Thats a poor looking Cylon.

check out the puffer forum for info on the fish. Grows to about 8"

Btw that pic wasnt the actual fish it was jus a random pic of the one i saw of google if u understand me. so isit freshwater or brackish? Also just out of interest can i keep him with my discus? if not he will probs go in a 10g on his own. Also it was in aquator in Torquay devon. and when i have looked at all other "Ceylons" they look nothing like him. but the pic i showed is what he looked like i dont think its a ceylon i think its under the wrong name.

I wouldn't keep any puffers with Discus at all, nor would I prepare a 10g just yet. If it was a ceylon, it'll get to around 8" so need a bigger tank. What kind of puffer do you think it was then?

Check google images for tetraodon biocellatus, see if it's that, because it looks similar to the one in that picture.

I already mentioned that if it was a Ceylon Puffer they grow to 8", and also prior posts stated that the Ceylon needs brackish and then full marine quality salt water at adulthood.

PS

All Puffers are totally unsuitable for community tanks. Ontop of that a 10Gall tank is unsuitable for nearly all Puffers, with the exception of maybe a pair of Dwarf Puffers.

Ok, Thanks everyone!! youve answered all my questions although i still dont know what it was but it doesnt matter as i dont want to put it in a 10 gal if you say it would be to small and defo not with my discus if you say it cant.

Thanks to everyne who helped me!!
