Requirements are:

Must be good in a planted tank - i.e. not pull up my carpet plants or eat any of my plants (i dont think any/many of them would?!)
Must stay small, around 6 inch max
Must not be so shy that i never see it
Must be ok with discus (not latching onto them like ottos do)
Must be good looking.....sorry, i have several bristlenose in other tanks, but they are not lookers! haha. Nice colours/ patterns.
I would really like it to help eat some algae! I know bristlenose do a good job or that....but as above haha

So....what do we think?

your looking for a fish that doesnt exist all L numbers dig even if you add a cave you will find around the entrance will be excavated.

I've got a cave in already, and around that area there is no plants. The back, more hidden parts have slate down. So maybe wont be a problem?

have a look into peckolitia and hypancystrus genus in my opinion there some of the best looking plecs around

Green or blue phantom. Mine is really confident, never hides and hasn't got bigger since I got him.

It's green, with yellow spots on his head. I'll post a pic if u want one.

Hypans are primarily meat eaters. I have never seen any of the ones I keep/have kept eat any algae. Most pekoltias also lean towards a meaty diet.

If you keep your discus in the low 80s, you might get away with a couple of Farlowella vittata.

yep...any carpeting plant with short roots will be easily uprooted by a plec.
