Hello everyone!

Still in the process of upgrading to my 350l tank and I've seen so many inspirational ideas on here with how to scape my tank! :hyper:

Now, I was originally going to go with white sand however the black sand/gravel also seems like a possibility (although I am having a dark background so it might be too dark?). I wanted to go with the all natural look with live plants, driftwood and rocks/slate, I've seen some photos on here with moss growing on rocks and in the sand which then turns into a bed of moss (looks quite awesome), when choosing plants etc will my fish like all kinds of plants or would I need to steer clear of certain types? How quickly do the plants usually grow like the moss for example?

I also wanted to ask, how does one make the tank look super awesome using the above natural materials like some others on here? Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated :good:

Thanks! :fun:

okay where to start... what lighting does your tank have? this will limit the types of plant's. as for fish liking the plants that depends on the fish. for example otocinclus likes broad leaf plants to sit on
moss's grow fairly quickely it all depends on lights, circulation, fertilizers, and CO2

T5 lighting in the Juwel Rio 300 :) I've got a community tank, so bristlenose, ghost knife, loach, tetras, ram... for now :p

how many WPG (watt's per gallon) do you have? t5's are quiet powerful some of your fish may nibble the plant's a little but iv never kept any of them besides the tetra's (which are fine)

That Im unsure of WPG but on the juwel website it says 4x54 watt, unsure how to work out the WPG though...

you divide the whats by the gallons
e.g
4x54= 216
216/90 (how many gallons you have in the tank) = 2.4 WPG  :good:

thats a lot of light. plant's might struggle under it without fert's and co2. although im running a 3.2 wpg tank (but i am using co2 and ferts in it)

generally 0-1.2wpg iss low light 1.2-2.5 wpg is mid and 3w+ is high (i think dont quote me on that)

you can have a wide range of plants. what type of look are you looking for? :good:

I don't need to turn all the lights on which is good haha, but what kind of ferts and co2 do you recommend using or brands of products i should be looking out for? I like the moss I want to create a bed of that somewhere, but that's as far as I've gotten, I like the look of yours! Want some variations in height too

okay well ferts id recommend EI dosing it's cheaper although your mixing your own this is what i use

as for CO2 you can make your own DIY one or go down pressurized there's threads on here telling you how to do both ways :good:

there's lots of different types of moss's riccia can make a nice bed as well ( im currently selling some on here if your interested) you can see it in my journal. its easy to attach as well

it might be an idea to turn some of the lights off and just go with low light plants like crypts, anubias, java fern, Amazon swords, java moss. or stay at mid light and add a few fertilizers ( id recommend this) you may not need CO2 at all with your light... if so you could allways get easycarbo like this one :good:

Awesome thanks for the tips! Also I may be interested in Riccia now, hmm have you used Java moss too? Which do you prefer? I may be interested in the Riccia from you but I doubt you ship to Australia? :p
