Are there any other Coldwater fish that can be housed with goldfish? Do koi require the same care as goldfish (in an outdoor pond let's say)

I'm not building a tank, I was curious about the answer growing up when I had goldfish I was told by the store workers no other fish could be housed with them.

For arguments sake, a 100 gallon indoor aquarium, large enough to house a few fully grown feeder goldfish, which get large. Goldfish are messy, so some fish that will eat waste and fallen food.

I am keeping mine with corydoras at 20 degrees. You can basically keep them with all sorts of coldwater fish, as long as they are not nippy as goldfish are relatively slow swimmers. There are several barbs or the pearl danio that you can keep, and of course the wcmm. And if you want something from the same region, then weaterhloaches are your choice.

I had always thought those were warm water species, thats interesting!

You're welcome Keith! We are more or less in the same climate zone (Quebec, Canada) by the way. I have just moved and outdoor ponds seem to be a big thing here. I wonder though how they do it with the fish inside it in wintertime? I guess the pond needs to have a minimum depth to ensure that not all the water freezes?

I assume by having a fountain going to keep the water flowing, or mabye a small heater just to keep water above freezing?

Fish don't eat waste so that's where plants and gravel vac's come in :good: . If food is falling to the bottom, that is a sign of over feeding.
