I had such a hard time at first with corys I got it now I think part of the problem was they were in poor condition when I got them. Anyways the bronze /Corydoras Aeneus are really hardy not too big and after having such a hard time with others mine spawned today. So my vote is the trusty Corydoras Aeneus. You could get some albinos they are the same.

I just got some pandas they are by far the cutest. IMO. Can't say how hardy they are since I just got them but the adjusted well so far.

these corys are in outside inside aquatics, any recommendations onwhat ones to get,so much to choose from.

I generally advise to get what they like, once you have determined that your set-up will be within their desired parameters.

Corydoras Arcuatus - I just don't like that fish. lol. Many people do.

Corydoras Bronze – Corydoras Aeneus - Probably the best fish for a newbie. Can't kill 'em with a rock.

Corydoras Elegans - Well, that covers a lot of territory.

Corydoras Gossei - One of my favorites. A beautiful fish.

Corydoras Habrosus - If you want a large shoal or you are tight on space. I keep and spawn them.

Corydoras Haroldshultzi - Much like C. sterbai. Very pretty. Can be pricey.

Corydoras Julii - Probably C. trilineatus. I don't lean toward those either, but then again, some people think I'm a Cory snob. :)

Corydoras metae - Not my cup of tea, either.

Corydoras Panda - Not allowed in my fish room. lol.

Corydoras Pepper - Another great fish for a beginner. Look at them funny and they'll spawn.

Corydoras Punctatus - They are NOT going to be that. Whenever they can't ID a spotted Cory, that's what they call it. Bogus.

Corydoras Schwartzi - Eh.

Corydoras sp. – Albino - There are not many Species of Cory that have an albino morph. No clue what they are.

Corydoras Sterbae - Nice fish, but I prefer the aforementioned look-alike.

Corydoras Loretoensis - An underrated little Cory. I keep them. I like them a great deal.

Corydoras pygmaeus - I keep and spawn them. A hobby staple. What's not to like? Can't go wrong. And no - they are not delicate, as many say. I've had a group for years with no losses - and I basically ignore them, except for pulling eggs.

Bottom line. Just get what you like. It's your tank and you have to look at it everyday. :)

Good luck. - Frank

I Agree with Frank, get the ones you like the look of. I have three of the species on your list, The Metae and the Trilineatus which i've had for a while and got from breeders and seem quite hardy, and the Harbrosus which i got 10 days ago (from outside inside ) and seemed to have settled in well. All are great little fish.

would it be possible to have 6 Corydoras pygmaeus, and six Corydoras Haroldshultziin my tank?

Corydoras Punctatus - They are NOT going to be that. Whenever they can't ID a spotted Cory, that's what they call it. Bogus.

how could it not be them, and how could i tell if it was them?

cheers scott

my favorite cories are albinos, skunks, and peppereds - some may not find them as attractive looking, but I love them!

would it be possible to have 6 Corydoras pygmaeus, and six Corydoras Haroldshultziin my tank?

You could but, IMHO, it wouldn't be the best possible combination. The C. haraldschultzi is a good sized cory (3"+)while the C. pygmaeus will only grow to an inch or so. I find my cory communities do best when they are somewhat more evenly matched in size.

If you are just starting out with corys and hope to breed a batch, you won't go wrong with either bronze or albino C. aeneus or C. paleatus.

Will there be other fish in the tank that would effect your flexibility with temperature requirements?

thanks for the advice, the only thing that has got me thinking, although you should learn to walk before you run,if i do get corys that are suitable for newbies like myself, just because they are easier to keep,i might have to wait up yo 5 years to get the ones i want,if that makes sense.and i have no intentions of breeding them
cheers scott

Hi scotty :)

If breeding them isn't a factor, get whichever ones you like. Just be sure their temperature conditions are similar enough that they are comfortable together.

Of the ones on your list, my favorites are the C. arcuatus, C. gossei, and C. haraldschultzi. They are all striking in appearance and no more difficult to keep than the basic C. aeneus. I rarely see any C. gossei in the lfs, so if you are looking for something unusual, you might want to get that while you can. :D

What will you be keeping them with? and in what kind of setup? size, temp etc..
The temperature for example will greatly effect the types of species suitable
