Hi !

I have a quick question....

I have a Mollie that is VERY pregnant. She was due a week ago. I came home today to find her doing her little "hoover in the corner and hide" act. Also she had that really square look to her.

I moved her to the breeding net where she immediately had several fry. Over the course of 1/2 hour she had 10 little fry.

but....

Every single one of them have big bloated bellies! They look horrible! It's almost like they have these big growths on them?

When I looked closely I saw a few eggs on the bottom (which I hear is normal). All of the baby fry have what appears to be an egg on their bellies! It's like they are underdeveloped or something.

I can't figure this out since there are no males in the tank she must have still been pregnant from her previous "roll in the hay" before I got her.

Why are all my babies deformed? Her last batch were all PERFECT! She was a week overdue so how can they be so underdeveloped??

I'm very saddened by this :-( :-(

The poor little guys are trying to make it, but almost all of them have died already. A few are lying on the bottom not moving cause their bellies are too big, but they are breathing.

I feel so bad for them! :byebye:

Does anyone have any ideas what might have happened?

:rip 8 little fry..... :rip

 My balloon molly and guppy fry had the same thing! When they were born, they still had their yolk sacs on their bellies, but after a day or so they all disappeared. It looks so weird doesn't it? Sadly, I lost 9 of the balloon mollies fry and I don't know why. I also noticed that the females have undeveloped eggs which, if you look very closely you can see the premature fry. Where are the fry now? ;)

Your babies are just a little premature.

The lumps on their bellies are the remains of the yolk-sac which fed them while they were developing.

If they make it past 24 hours, they should be fine.

Heather,
You got some great answers - she delivered a little earlier then the last batch, hense the present yolk, the last batch must have developed inside longer, using up the yolk before delivery. Best of luck.

Thanks Guys !

I'm a little confused as to how she could have delivered prematurely....she had her last batch 5 weeks ago.....no males in the tank so she couldn't have gotten pregnant a few weeks after she delivered...

Hmmm...Oh well :D

Well I checked them when I got this morning and 10 had died. There were still 8 little fighters in there though!

And their bellies are gone now, they look like normal little fry....just a bit smaller. But nevertheless, they are VERY cute!

Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully these little guys will pull through.

Heather

Hi Heather I am glad you finally have your baby fry. Did you know that a mollie can hold sperm for up to three months. I was just like you at first, couldnt wait for the new fry, but trust me you will get over that very soon they can and most of the time will have you a new batch of babies every 28 days or so. They are so cute but they add up very fast and I do mean very fast.
