In the middle of my tank change up and went to buy some more Silver Dollars and ended up coming home with some + a 5" very colurful male(?) Nic for £3!

What fish mix well with these long term?

I have nics with my serverums, ellioti, firemouth and RTBS. But mine are only about 2" at the mo.

Do they fight? my is currently in with my Green Terror and as soon as i put him in he lip locked with him (they are the same size) and the Nic won...the GT's hiding now :p

I'm going to rehome my GT and male con soon

I was thinking...

1 x Rotkeil Severum
1 x Red Spotted Severum
1 x Nic
2 x Red Head Tapajos
4 x Silver Dollars
10 x Smaller Dithers
1 x Bristlenose Plec

As my stock...what d'ya think?

Should be fine with your planned stocking. My experience with Nics wasnt great, I had two females, one was quickly more dominant than the other and killed her 'sister', she then proceeded to go any fish she didnt like the look of, although stayed clear of my larger severum, although didnt like the smaller two severums.

Mine hates my Green Terror...but keeps it away from bothering other fish which is a good thing.

Just bought 1 Red Head Tapajos and a Rotkeil

Plan to add more Red Heads later...they just so fricken' expensive! (£20 each) although they did a straight swap for my JD and Vieja Argentea because i only had them for a week or 2.

Tanks looking pretty good and colourful :) need to have a clean up later so wont add any pics yet...to much poo on my sand :p

So how does this sound long term?

1 x Rotkeil Severum
1 x Red Spotted Severum
1 x Nic
2-4 x Red Head Tapajos (not decided how many)
4 x Silver Dollars
10 x Smaller Dithers
1 x Bristlenose Plec

Could i add a gold nugget pleco? they have had a massive price cut recently...down to £15 each from £45

Anything else i could add? like any other type of small Geo or peaceful Cichlid?

Also how does Rosy barbs sound as the small dither? will corys fit in? can i keep my Female Convict?

Pretty pleased with this for £3 :)

I got my Rotkeil for £5 also.....bit of a bargain day :)

mine are only small yet, they were £1 each (home breeder near me had hundreds!!). Stocking sounds ok but I think it somethimes just depends on the fish. I had to re-home my 4 texas (which I bought as blue acara long story) not because of aggression on their part they were being bullied. I am lucky I have other tanks I can move fish if necessary.

Hehe yeh i remember your story Star :) i always read even if i don't comment :p

I just did a big clean up job on my tank...did a 50% water change...cos of the amount of poo i syphoned off the sand :p pulled off the dead bits on my plants that my Silver Dollars has chewed up and repositioned my wood and pebbles and flower pots (but screwed up my bubble wall in the process....stupid frustrating things!!!!) so hopefully now i have reset all the territory's and the Red HEad and Nic will be on a level playing field :)

Thats cool that its female Minxy :) do females get smaller than 9"?

No rush to rehmome my GT and male convict...will do it eventually....probably when i add more fish i will trade them in.

6" is going to be much more likely for a female

My Male lives peacefully with a Gold Severum, Geophagus surinamensis, JD, Sajica, Elliotti and Acara, although he is clearly the boss of the tank

Nice...mine is a complete terror...she must be nearly fully grown now then, she is quite large.

I swapped the Green terror for a adult white angel earlier...the Green Terror would't of last another day with that thing lol!

Its not interested in the Angel whatsoever or anythign else...just my Geophagus tapajos....it wants to kill that now....

So i'm keeping a close eye, if it gets to bad i will rehome it or swap it for something because i want the RHT more.

Well, are Nics African or SA? What do you expect with a fish that beleives it can and will boss around everyone?

Its a Central American Cichlid....the clue is in the name ;)

And it don't tend to boss everybody around... i mean it could try, but one i don't understand fishy language and 2 I'm a little bit bigger :)
