What Media For Pond Filter ?

Hello,
Looking to re media the pond filter, but being a tight wad (UK saying ! lol) I am reluctant to pay LFS prices... I have been suggested chopped up small bore water pipe - but its smooth walled, so looking for alternatives...

What type of pond filter do you want to reload? What kind of filtration are you needing? For mechanical/biological filtration, you can use just about anything that provides large surface area/volume. Here in the US bulk filter media is sold in rolls online, priced by length and width, still much less costly than the lfs. Have you checked e-bay?

After something "bio" ... most garden centres carry "bio balls" but they are VERY expensive - as are most things in the UK !
What does your "bulk media" look like ? is it the white nylon wadding type ?

i heard you can use ping pong balls for biological filtration.
