What variety of fast growing plants can I hang from an aquarium planter box with roots extending into the tank water absorbing nitrate? Submersed but not emersed plants. Right now I have some pothos.

I found that peace lilies grew quickly in an aquarium setting.

Have a look at these as well. I want to try Walking Iris soon.

Philodendron
Spider Plant
Monstera
Syngonium
Walking Iris

edit- Never mind the Iris! It isn't a fan of wet feet It's a nice-looking plant though.

I have done philodendron, and monstera, they don't grow as aggressively as the pothos... I've also had exceptional luck with the peace lilies...
I also have a few hoya vines going, and they are growing well, and they have a pretty, traditional, flower ( unlike peace lilies ) and are highly fragrant...

I think this is a balancing act, with the faster they grow, the more they pull out of the water, but also the more plant maintenance is required...

You guys have given me some great options. Now let’s see if I can make up my mind 🤓

BTW... I've found the "common" Pothos to be the winner here, as far as vigorous growth... with most of the various varieties, the lime green ( which is what looks like what you have currently in your attached picture ) and the several variegated varieties, of which I have a few, always seeming to survive, but growing slower, thus likely removing less from the aquariums... but I have some monster common pothos in around 3 years, often starts in one tank, and ending up rooted in several tanks, without any intervention from me, they find the other tanks on their own and insert a root

I found that as well. I had the lime green variant in my old paludarium probably had 4-5 new leaves in after a few months. While now I have the more common variant growing out of my 90L which has pretty much overtaken the top of the tank.
