What Kind Of Wood?

It looks somewhat like mopani but releases major tannins in water and doesnt sink.

Looks like mopani, which realeses a lot of tanins. But if it doesn't sink it could be something else, as far as i know mopani should sink.

If it isnt mopani wood could I use it? Is there any way to see if it isnt?

yes i was thinking grape vine too

Could I use it if I soaked it enough or are there too many sugars, starches, etc.?

you could soak it and boil it to get the tenins out. It does look like grapevine to me. I have been working on a piece for 2 weeks and just got it to sink and all the tenins out of it. Not sure if yours will bun mine turned real dark almost black but it looks old now and pretty neat. 8)
