Hi, it would be nice if people could share how they do their water change especially on a bigger tank. I am searching for a way to do big water change in my 50 gallon other than a bucket and a siphon because it is very long..

I’ve never had anything bigger than a 29g.

I just use very clean used plastic milk jugs. It’s super easy to mix the de chlorinator in there and I keep 3 filled up and ready at all times. :)

20 meters of clear plastic hose and a 2 litre plastic drink bottle that is converted into a gravel cleaner. Run the hose out the door onto the lawn and use the bottle gravel cleaner to clean the gunk out of the substrate.

Then use a small water pump and some more hose to pump water form a holding tank into the main tank.

Same as Colin except I use custom gravel cleaner with water pump attached to it so it works as a vacuum.

A 55 gallon tank is the smallest I have ever had.
I've really mastered this whole water change thing.
Draining - I drain with a submersible pump that runs right to the sink and gravel vac into a 20 gallon container. Anything that needs to be scrubbed or rinsed gets tossed into that. I scrub the glass while draining.

To fill - connect 2 lines with a splitter on the python (I have very high water pressure) and fill the tanks with 2 lines and home made pvc hooks at the end. I rinse and scrub anything in my bucket while I fill and get it back where it belongs.

Last step is to drain that bucket with my pump, wipe down water spots, and wrap it all up.

I only have has smaller tanks, so I don’t have a clue what you guys are talking about! :D

I just use the thinner tube part of my gravel vacuum to siphon my sand.

Submersible pump attached to hosepipe leading into the garden to empty.

Fill it like this (25 litre jerry cans)

Do you not have to condition the water before it goes into the tank? That’s my issue, I can drain it no problem, but filling is done a bucket at a time. Fill bucket, add dechlorinator, wait, heat it to right temp while waiting, then that bucket goes in.
long process refilling:-(

Yeah of course I do. I toss some conditioner in just before I start to fill. Some may disagree with that, but there's no way I can condition hundreds of gallons of water before it goes into the tank. Haven't ever had a problem with this in 15+ years.
