I have 3 rainbow platy, 2 female 1 male, their body is half red half blue, black fins, very beautiful.

However, their fry are so ugly, every single one, look exactly same, not blue, not red, some kinda dark grey with a little red, and a vertical line in their body.

why? they have a few brood now, ever single one looks like this, far from their parents.

There is no other platy in the tank, so they only can cross with other.

Any idea? Many thanks.

how old are they?

if they are just a few weeks old or younger the colors wont be developed yet

wait little while longer and they should start developing colors

really? they will change color later? my other platy fry always look like their parents, and from the first day they born.

Hope you r right, fingers crossed.

yep, they'll change color, my guppy fry were all yellow when born (the mom's yellow and the dad is black) and they are starting to look darker and darker, so you just gotta wait ;)

Orange Platy with an Orange Platy will most likely give you orange fry to start out with and never change, but colors do develop when you have fish with multiple colors. They don't show immediately. My Mollies took two months to show specks of black on otherwise completely yellow Mollies.

i know guppy and endler will show color later, but never know platy do so. Almost all the platy i had, their fry always having the same color when they grow up :shout:
