Hi, I’ve attached a youtube video of my Danio which I have had for maybe 3 months now.

The last few weeks its been looking really chubby and has an extra kind of hump under its chin. Now it seems to be breathing quickly and keeping away from the others. Is it pregnant and going to lay eggs soon? Or is it something more sinister?

Please help so I can administer any meds if necessary!

It seems to be a female staying by the filter... definitely has some pounds on it... And is breathing hard. What are your water params?

It has an internal problem and is in pain, hence the breathing heavily. I would probably euthanise it.

Thank you for your honesty I think you’re right. I believe this fish has dropsy as its scales are now protruding. I have done a big water change and added in some parasite meds to see if it will pick up, but I don’t think it will.

I don’t have anything to euthanise it with currently, and I think it may die overnight. My other (10) fish all look completely fine and healthy so I dont think quarantine is necessary.

Can’t help feeling so guilty over it, but not sure what I can do really.
