Hi. I just purchased a female Betta a few days ago & she hasn't done much but hide in the corner. She's in a 10 gallon with a couple swords & neon tetras all of whom leave her alone. This is my first experience with a Betta so I'm not sure if it's normal. I was under the impression that she would be more active. What gives??? Thanks.

Well I keep 4 females in a 20 gallon live planted tank with snails (not intentional, but welcomed) and my females are very active swimming in the hanging plant matter and around. They are very communal from what I have noticed and not aggressive towards each other at all.

but I do have one female that is sluggish but healthy. She can't be kept around the others because she is way to aggressive. So I just keep her in a 5 gallon tank and she does perfectly fine by herself.

What is the water temperature? How long have you had her? what kind of water do you use? what type of Betta is she?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I use tap water with water conditioner & the temp is 25C - all parameters are good. I bought her 6 days ago & am not sure what kind she is, but I think she may be young because she is small, has horizontal stripes showing (I read you can see them when they are young) & her color is not fully in yet. I hope this is not typical behavior because I really wanted to buy some more, but now I am doubtful. Any thoughts??

the betta needs time to get used to her knew home. just give her a week or so, then shell get used to it.

i think she may well still be settling in thats why shes not been as active as she might normally be.

its takes a few days for them to settle in, and find out whos boss in the tank, lol.

Gud luck!
