What kind of catfish is this?

It said "Whiptail cat" on the LFS tank, but I know it's not. I bought him thinking he was a Whiptail and didn't pay attention to it. Is he okay to stay in a 30g? If not I'm getting a 55g soon...

I got my royal whiptail for $30 aus. which is about $15 - $20 US i'd say

Are you serious? I looked at a Website and they had a picture of a Whiptail and it looked nothing like that. Oh well, he's really cool though. I payed $7 for him. What does he eat?
