I need help identifying this stuff on the surface of his aquarium surrouding the plant. Its black or dark brown. But does anyone know what it is?

I hope it won't hurt him! I just noticed it now, and I'm going to do a water change in a couple of minutes, in case I need to put something in there.

Eeeew! Lol!

Looks like it could be brown algae? Thats the only thing i can think it may be. Try the plants or emergancy section for advice.

BTW don't you think ich is a good name for a disease? :D

Is it slimy? It looks a lot like cyanobacteria to me. I am battling cyano right now. It snuck in on some live plants that I got.

I have gotten rid of it before using manual removal and some antibiotics. I am not positive it won't hurt the fish in large quantities, but a small amount won't hurt.

There is a great pinned article in the planted section about different kinds of algaehere. Maybe that article will be of more assistance.
