What is this stuff?

Hey....been pretty busy and tank maintenance has been pretty low on the list, but have been doing regular, weekly water changes, gravel cleaning, but that's about it....a couple of days ago I noticed this stuff growing on my fake plants...today I noticed it has started moving in on some of my real plants....what is it? is it harmful?

Think it's beard algae....check the pic on this site. Think ur supposed to wind it around something (finger/stick) and pull it off. Repeat. And, apparently, repeat. One site suggested thinking of it as removing the nitrates and phosphates the algae ate ...sposed to make ya feel better.
