What is this growth on my pleco? It is almost a nickle in size.

You can try tying a piece of string around the base of the growth (not the fin, just the growth). Do it up tight and keep tightening it over the next few weeks. The string can cut the blood supply off to the growth and cause it to die and fall off.

The fish won't like it but it's the only option other than surgery and most fish don't survive surgery.
 
I know the pleco isn't happy, as his find are tight to the body. Here are a couple of other photos of it.
Looks like a tumor to me, however it looks smooth, which could suggest otherwise.

I had not thought of that. I remember now you mention this, that we use to do this with a tight rubber band in removing lambs tails back in Montana. Thank you.
