Hi All,

I have this currently growing in my tank. To be honest I have not paid too much attention to it, its been there since near the beginning so for around 2-3 months.

When first setting up the tank I had terrible Algae issues, likely just new tank inbalances etc. My algae issues have all but dissapeared now.

With this exception that still appears to linger.

It's not really grown in size since, or spread anywhere else, plants are fine, not other wood seems to have any trace.

But nonetheless it would be good if I could identify it and possibly remove.

Cheers, TC

The black stuff on the rock looks like blue green algae (Cyanobacter bacteria).
The grey fluffy stuff is some type of algae but it's out of focus so not 100% on type.

Just take the rock outside and hose it off. If the stuff comes back, hose it off again until it stops coming back.

Hard to say in the pics. Black beard would be stringy (like beard hairs). I didn't know blue-green could be black, interesting.

Blue green algae (Cyanobacteria) occurs in various colour forms including blue, dark green, brown, red, pink, purple and black.
