What is the life span of tinfoil barbs?

Tinfoils can live for 10+ years in ideal conditions.

Their rate of growth depends on the conditions set for them - they'll grow much better with a good diet, clean water, and a suitable size tank. One of the problems with the idea of 'getting a bigger tank later' is that the smaller tank will restrict their growth, so later should be now! In ideal conditions they grow very fast.

Tinfoils are notorious tank busters and seem to be less susceptible to "stunting" then some other species. They are big messy quick growing fish. There should be a warning printed on their sides.

Yeah, I wish I knew what was getting in to when I got my tinfoil's. I unfortunately cannot afford a large tank so atm I have 3 little tinfoils (less than 2") sitting in a 10 gal tank chasing each other around. They like to eat all the time so I know they are growing, and their color is becoming darker and more apparent on the fins so I know they are beginning to mature. I can probably get a 55gallon tank in about a month. The LFS here is selling a 55gal for $199. This probably isn't that great of a buy but it's all I can find locally.
