I have had him/her for between 6-9months, it has hardly grown, Maybe 1 inch at the most but we have had some serious bouts of Finrot.

I was hoping you could tell me what he/she is?
I have a 4foot/200L tank, i dont want it to feel cramped when its grows up.. if it will ever grow. He/she is currently scraping in at about 2 Inches long.

I saw a propper large pleco at the LFS and it seemed to have similar markings to the one on mines back. I just assumed it was a BN, as thats what they usually seem to have in when theyre young like mine was. ..who knows...

(i hope the picture works!!- if not bare with me..)

Thanks, hope you can help!!

how much did u pay for it and what size was it?

shape looks totally wrong for an ancistrus to me, maybe its just the camera angle but from that pic it looks like an Rhinelepis aspera but the spotting seems wrong to me, do you have any other photo's?

I think i paid between $6-$8 dollars Australian. And it was only about an inch long then.

I do have one other photos, but its pretty bad, I will post another one next time it comes out to play.

still looks totally different shape to a BN for me but seeing as you are in aus, thats more than likely what it is.
would be interested to see more pics still though

As promised, more pics.
Sorry about the photo quality!
She? was out in the middle of my tank without any cover around her, thats a 1st. She's usually very shy.
Tonight she will get Zuchinni as a treat =)

It does not look like a common BN to me. I think it is a baby L180 or something. Maybe a starlight BN

That's what it looks like to me. A common BN is not as round or wide. The markings are different too. Look at this one

Pleco are so hard to ID because there are SO MANY of them and many of them look very similar. Some times if they are wild caught i don't think the people catching them even know what they are half the time. There are 59 different types of Ancistrus aka bristle nose.

It might not even be an Ancistrus.

Look at all the types of BN plecos It will hurt your head trying to find the one that matches yours. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/family.php?family_id=4

definitly not a 180 going by second lot of pics it is a very stressed common BN :)

I think whatever it is only time will tell for sure. It looks small and immature and maybe a little stressed. As it gets older and back to good health then its true colors or show.
