I was just settling down with a cup of tea, and about to watch Emmerdale, when i looked over to my tank and spotted this on the glass...

it's about 2-3mms long.

In the tank is a few Otos, been there for about a year, a BN which has been there for a few months and a Clown plec, its been there for about a month.

is it ID able from this pic?

or is it a nasty?

Its going to be hard to tell untill its older and starts colouring up. If you only have 1 BN and 1 Clown plec then it will be the Ottos.

I wondered whether the clown could have been pregnant when i bought it, as the oto's haven't bothered for a year. It deffo looks like fry then?

Certainly looks like fry but it`s a bit difficult to tell from what

It looks like a fry to me. And clowns aren't live bearers so there is no way your 'single' fishies could've made this baby. Congrats if it is an otto :)

Looks like it. Clowns arent livebearers so the eggs are layed then fertilised by the male so without atleast 2 theres no way it could be from them, so has to have been the Ottos. All i can say is well done, people often struggle to even keep ottos alive let alone breed them so you must have a very healthy tank and fish.

cheers guys!

well, i can now use my tank as an example to people who claim dosing nitrates and phosphates into a planted tank is bad.

*happy* :good:

How the hell did you notice that?

Was Emmerdale really that bad tonight?

James.

lol, yes it was James, yes it was!

Honestly i don't know how i spotted it, those little dots are micro bubbles of C02, so it gives a bit of perspective.

Ian I love stuff like this, hope it is a little Oto that would be so cool

i was gonna try and net him and pop him in the 20ltr. He'd gone by the time i'd got the net. Maybe not a bad thing, as you know theres planty of hiding places in the big tank.

IMO, having read some articles on Otocinclus, where they show pictures of fry, this to me, is a fry. You might want to get Coryologist to perhaps confirm or someone who is an expert in Otos and other Pleco type catfish.

Sorry, Ian, this is getting buried in Tropical Discussion. I'm moving it to Catfish and you'll get a better answer I think.
