I have a confusing dilema, i have had this fish for over 5 months now nad i hears from one person it is a Red belied Pirahna and the next say it is a Red bellied pacu!! i am confused!
Super beast is a very pretty fish, will eat any thing from feeder fish to flake food to frozen food to lettuce , he will eat any thing, (including a few bites of my hand)
he is a pretty silver and has a tail outlined in black and has a orangy red tummy with black spots on his sides he a\has grow very fast , when i got him he was around a inch in length and now he is pushing 5-6 he is a sweet heart but very timid.......thank you!

Is there any way to put a pic up of him? That in all actuality describes both of them. The black on the tail in the rbp starts at the base of the tail and then it gets grey and then the very end is black again.

If no pic, I would have to say it's a pacu based on that little of info. It "could" very well be a red belly piranha but the thing that sticks out for me is you say it's 6" already. RBP's grow about 1" a month to 4-5" and tend to low down after that but Pacu's keep growing. I'm still not certian what it positively is but that's my guess with what I have to go on. Pacu's can get to 30" in the wild but 12" is more of the norm in aquariums.

Erm, a pic would help somewhat! you have described several possible fish there, yes, probably a Metynnis, maybe even a Metynnis maculatus (dollar of the silver) or similar?

Not a good pic but hey,

click on it for few Metynnis argenteus pics :D

You can go to members aquarium pics and post it there if you'd like. Use the attachment feature.
