Hello, im new to the forum so unsure if im posting this in the right place.
Ive recently bought a fluval profile 1200 and fluval 405 pump, the pump needed to repaired so i just left the tank in the corner waiting to be repaired.
Went to the local fish shop to see what bits they had and ended up coming home with 2 gold fish as an impluse buy for my pond, the man in the shop said the pond would be to cold for the fish so i thought id stick them in my old 20gal setup ive got in my loft, got them home and cleaned the tank set it all up and filled it with water etc
I put the bag in the water so the fish can get use to the tempature of the new tank, then i released them after about 30mins.
They were fine, swimming and eating properly, but i noticed one of them was attacking the other as soon as they were released.
2 weeks have pasted and ive got my profile fixed and been filling it up 10% at a time to make sure theres no leaks.
The goldfish thats getting attacked is hiding away now?
I went back to the fish shop to buy some dechlorinator and a water test kit, came home added the dechlorinator to the profile tank and done a water test on both tanks. The profile's water what in perfect condition for the goldfish, but the small tanks nitrite and ammonia levels were completely off the scales. I instantly thought just put them in the profile, i put them in a floating container and let them float around to eqaulise the water.
They went in fine and were eating/swimming fine, but then over the last few days the attacked fish was floating near the top and then laying on the gravel, its tail wasnt looking the best as the other gold fish kept nipping it.
Day later its still on the bottom and moving its gills once every minute or so, then it died :(
Flushed the dead one and put some internal bacterial no9 into the tank as it obviously had an infection and i want to make sure the other one doesnt die aswell.
Now the other fish is being more shy than usall, when hes stopped hiding ive had a good look at him and hes got white patches on his sides, ive added anti velvet and finrot and the white patches are getting smaller so i think thats fixed that.

My question is what going wrong here, they seemed to be healthier in a dirty tank? i thought goldfish could handle anything as my pond goldfish has been in the pond for around 6 years with no food (he eats the algae) and no pump.

Hope this is in the right place if not could an admin move it for me.
Cheers

did you cycle the tank that you put the goldfish in? im assuming no, therefore your fish are suffering amonia and nitrite poisioning....

nope but i can cycle with fish cant i?
they would of had nirite and ammonia poisoning from the small tank, but the levels are near on perfect in the big tank that there in now, but there health seem's to have got worse?

are you doing regular water changes? you need to if the filter is not cycled, do large waterchanges with temperature matched and dechlorinated water until your ammonia and nitrite levels are at 0 and nitrates are rising daily....gold fish need a big tank, they are mucky fish and have a huge bioload, ie 1 golfish needs at least 150L of water...i am currently thinking of building a pond for a goldie ive rescued...

not done any water changes yet, the filter is used
hes in a 323litre tank and ive tested the water twice this week, nitrite and ammonia levels are both 0

Ive got a rescued goldfish in a 300litre pond and it loves it in there lol

Fancy taking my rescued goldie? Digging a pond and running it seems alot of hard work......

You can get a plastic molded pond, there pretty easy to install. I just filled mine with water and put the goldfish in and hes been in there for about 6 years - i give it a half water change now and then to keep it fresh but other than that they survive well.

i cant find one deep enough..ive been told it needs to be quite deep so the fish can go deep to get away from the frosts etc. how deep is yours?

its about 1 and half/2ft deep, but the water is very green so it can hide pretty well

i think im giving this pond idea a miss...
no.gif
too much like hard work, in the cold too!!

hows your fish today?

Hes fine now im jsut about to give him a second dose of anti internal jsut to be safe. I moved some plants and decor around in the tank yesterday and have found a load of white/clear eggs that look to be goldfish eggs...ive put them in a floating breeding tank for now nad hopefully il have something over the next few days.

Awwwww baby goldies. Congrats!! Hope you get them to hatch! Look forward to pics! :)

Eggs died, new plants have died, goldfish now has what seems to be mouthrot. Getting very aggitated!!!!

Awww no. What a shame. Im sure if theyve bred before, they will again, hope goldies mouthrot clears fast
