i dont know to do. for the first time i have a algae problem. i have been doing my water changes when needed. when my nitrates get too high. which seems to be almost weekly. i have to clean my decorations cause they get overrun in that algae now. but it seems like dispite that every week it comes right back. one thing that has happend is three of my four snails have died. that may or may not account for all this algae. i also wonder why all of sudden they died. also today my gourami was dead. it had a bulge on its side and a big white place on its back. so far other fish are fine. anybody got any ideas what is happening with my tank???

How long do you keep your lights on? Do you have any algae eating fish? What are your water parameters?

What fish do you have in you tank? I was told that clown loach kill snails and many of my snails have mysteriously dissapeared! I have 2 clown loaches that regularly appear at night and therefore may be eating snails without me knowing.
I also have a lot of alge and my nitrate levels are 10. I have however been told that i should not be too concerned about nitrate or alge as it will not harm the fish unless it reaches very high levels. I spend time each week removing alge, mainly so that it does not start to starve my plants of oxygen, as i have also been told that the alge will take over and kill my plants!

What do the tropical fish experts think of this?
