Ok. I just got home and the runt of my group of snails was floating with this weird pouch on the side of her shell. I scooped her out for a few seconds to examine it and I noticed her shell was extremely chipped and rugged. It seems as if the side of her shell "burst?" open and something started to come out??? I tried to put her in a quarentine tank I already by chance had set up, but I did the sniff test and she is DEFINITELY dead. I feel so bad! I don't see what could have possibly happened, I just did a water change and all of the parameters were perfect! ( I used one of the test tube kits, not sure what brand) Well now I'm just really worried what happened to her might happen to my others. Please, if you have ANY idea what could have happened I would really like your help.

The snails she'll looks eroded, not completely but the white specks are erosion. The snail could of had a weak spot which was knocked or something, or his body just bust through a comprised corroded area.

Can add in some calcium blocks for them to help grow a stinger shell.

Thanks for the comment! I actually have a couple of cuttle bones in my tank already, and I dose the tank with calcium powder every two weeks. The thing is, I just got this little dude a week ago, and the tank she was in at the pet store didn't have any supplements in it. I asked the man working there what kind of supplement they used in their tanks (I ran out) and apparently they don't use any! She came with a pretty eroded shell already:( not shopping at that store again!

Cuttle bones are good, but after a while I find they go mushy.
Have you ever heard of these?

My snails go nuts for them. (I have spixi snails) they are made out of food stuff and won't pollute the water as fast as 'weekend blocks' I always have one in the tank- they last about two weeks.

Poor snail, most pet shops don't use supplements as they aren't there long enough. It's all about profit for them.

Too true nic1. I haven't heard of those but they sound great! I'll run into my local pet store sometime this week and see if I can find them. For some reason my cuttlebones get mushy REALLY fast, so I usually have to change them out once every 3 water changes or so.
