What Is Going On With My Cycle?

I tested my nitrates today, they have gone from darkish purple (10 - 15) to light purple (5). Is this normal? I thought the only way to get rid of nitrates is to do a water change?

Also I seem to have a time bit of algae in my tank, is that a good sign?

Evening all.

Just thought I'd give a little update on my cycle.

Ammonia has been coming down very slowly over the last few days. It's is still about 1ppm-ish. Nitrites are still at 0. But nitrates have been going up. Current
Y at 20ppm-ish.

Slowly but surely things are happening.

My ammonia has been around the 1ppm mark for 5 days now. Do I wait until its closer to 0, or should I top up to 3ppm?

You should always wait until Ammonia reaches '0' before topping back up, failure to do this could promote the growth of a wrong type of bacteria.
Stick with it, patience is the key !!!
