I am a beginner aquarist and i need to know what hours are best for the fish to keep the lights on? I already know u have to keep them on for 8-10 hours. :p

Ideally match it with your normal daylight timings especially if you are living in a part of the world where there is a lot of sunshine :D

During winter I change the timings to start a little later in the day so I can get to see my fish when I get home from work :)

Am I leaving mine on too long? 7am to 10pm so I can see them before I leave for work and up until evening news. I get some algae on the glass and decorations but I'm trying to find an oto to take care of that. The lfs always seem to be out of stock on them :grr:

I have live plants that are doing okay, but I plan to add CO2 soon.

if there is one thing i would not do without its an alge eater... im not shure if plecs are also classed as alge eaters as there seems to be a different classification everywhere i turn but i would substiture certaint plecs for alge eaters if i coulnt get hold of an actual "alge eater" i wish i spoke latin then all this name problem would just vanish.maybee one day i will learn.

I believe fish adapt to lighting scedules. Live plants are another story. Timers are best, change lighting shedules gradually.
