i was fixing my bell for c02 and when i stepped back to look at how i did, i looked around a little at my fishes, i suddenly noticed that one of my dwarf gouramis was splashing around, and swimming on its side like it was having a seizure...it did that for around 20 seconds and then suddenly floated.... and not its dead.... :byebye: what happened ?? did anybody encounter this before ?? all my other fishes are doing fine and the dwarf gourami that died even kept on building bubble nests this morning.....

i dont have levels, only Ph and KH which i doubt will be of any help.. im using a planted tank if that helps. i do weekly water changes......
PH - 7.0 - 7.5
KH - 2

my tank has 2 tetras,2 dwarf gouramis ( including the dead one) 2 albino cory's,2 panda cory's,1 oto,1 small molly and one big marble molly.

i add fertilizer for my plants every now and then

sad thing to see...... kinda like watching somebody die... :(

He may have been spooked when you were putting the bell in and banged himself on the tank walls or ornaments. I've had it happen before and death can be quite quick. Sorry that it happend to you.
Are all the other fish ok? Hope so...

really ???? oh man.. yeah i looked at the other fishes and studied their movements and they seem fine well for the 10 mins that i was looking at em, and i also did a partial water change just to be sure. BTW is there anyway to prevent this next time ? so i dont spook em fishes ?? :/

I think it could have been swimbladder trouble. This is a common disease among labyrimth fishies like gouramis. Since you described it as swimming on its side it could have been having swimbladder trouble. Did you notice him/her to be swimming near the top or bottom of the tank before he died?

hmm he looked kinda normal before the few senconds when he died suddenly. he only goes on to the top to eat and build em bubble nests... o well.. il try to look furthur into swimbladder problems and see if that is the problem

Yeah thats what I think it is...you didn't see him having any swimming problems??

no none really, only during the few seconds before his death. :( well life has to move on, hes in fish heaven now and i only hope that its not bad water or something so my other fishes are safe
