What Happened?

Well last night i was looking at my tank, and could not see the male on his wood ( Only time he moves is when hes hungry or on rare random look for food) So i look around and find him in a cave, Fins up, scaring of anything which went in. He stayed there for about 20min. Until the female entered, there was a slight fight (male trying to trap her) but she got away. About 5min later she went back on top of the cave, Laying her eggs so it was a nice meal for the corys. Anyway, Male got bored, and went back to his log, while the female went into the cave and i think layed the rest of her eggs.

Any ideas what happened? or just very noobish to the whole breeding?

probably just newbies. Give them time and they will work it out eventually

Yeap, my first batch were spread all over the tank, stupid female. The next batch she got them in the cave, then Dad promptly buggered off and they were eaten.

The third batch he didn't move for 2 weeks, killed 2 mollys that got trapped in the cave and around 80% survived.

Now i get batches around once a month or so.

The males are deadly when protecting the eggs.
