ok, the day i got my pleco he was fine. the next morning,he layed motionless. i get home from school, he is up side down in the tank. i then used my net to sorta softly "poke" him/her. it was dead. then, a couple days later, my african dawrf frog was dead! i did many tests for pH, chlorine, and all the other stuff. I know hav 3 guppies in my tank and thay r doing fine. plzz help cuz i dont want to make the same mistakes again. :(

Could you please give stats for pH, GH, KH, Ammonia, NitrIte and NitrAte, if you have tests for them all? What test kit do you use, Brands and the base i.e. strips, Liquid Drops, Tablets, Powder... Also, how long has the tank been running and what species of plec did you have? Is 3 guppies all that's left in the tank now? Finally, what sized tank is it?

All the best
Rabbut

before we can go any further with this mate

we need to know the following

ur water parametrs for

ammonia
ph
nitrite
nitrate
temperature

how long tank has been set up for?

what is in tank so far?

then we can see the problem and rectify it

regards chris

:D i found out the problem! i didnt know wht plecos ate, so i feed him/her fish flakes, and the tank was new so he/she couldn't eat alegy. i know i need alegy waffers now.

ty 4 the help any ways!

It is still worth checking your water stats as feeding the wrong food for a couple of days would not have killed your Plec.

if the tank has only been running for two days then you have no bacteria in it so the fish poo is poluting the water and poisoning them i bet your water is high in amonia if i were you i would do daily water changes with dechlorinater to keep your amonia and nitrite down

no, like he wouln't eat at all. but any ways, here is the CURRENT stats:

nitrate...............0
nitrite................0
total hardness....75
total chlorine......0
total alkalinity....120
pH....................about 7.2

remember, these are the CURRENT stats from 2:11 pm

They'll be the test strips. I find thm ok as a quick test, but for accurate resdings you need to be using either a tablet or liquid test kit. Have you considered bullying? What else was in the tank at the time?

Agreed with the above need ammonia stats during cycling as your tank is doing now and will be up and down like mad

what sort of plec was it even if you where feeding flake it will eat left overs and fish can go weeks without food

personally what i think

plec has died due to ammonia spike during your tank cycling

wht is bullying??? also, i don't have an amonia test. i think the plec was a spotted sail fin... yaa i pretty shure thats wht it was.
