Best pics I could get of my gourami.. I'm not sure if that damage is from a bite or something else. My two gouramis use to mess around a long time ago but not anymore. It's somewhat black around the edges and looks red where it isn't black. Please help! He seems fine though swiming around and eating as usual.

Gouramis are generally very tough and have excellent regenerative ability. For example, true story of my own. I once put my pearly with my snakehead. The next day, the gourami was nearly devoid of all its fins

Now, 3 weeks later, it is totally ok and is back to normal. I think that as long as you manage to ensure that the gourami's wounds do not get infected, it should be fine.

Actually the wound was a bit smaller and it looks to have gotten worse Is there anything I can treat it with or to help aid in recoverying. Its just 2 gouramis in a ten gallon tank and water checks out fine... I've had both of them for couple of years now. Earlier in the day he was having problems swiming and would sink to the bottom but now he doing just fine. :S

If the wound has gotten worse, then you have cause for alarm. Try an antibiotic, melafix, or some aquarium salt. Read some of the pinned topics on diseases.

I have a bottle of Melafix.. rapidly repairs damaged fins, ulcers and open wounds, promotes regrowth of damaged tissue and fins. Is there any chance of the melafix harming the other fish? I never had to use any medicines before.

Sorry to hear your gourami aint doing too good.

Melafix or Myxazin are both very good. However they are expensive.

I had a very aggressive Upside Down Catfish once, some of my fish were disappearing and some of the larger ones had nipped fins. I only realised it was the catfish when I put an oscar in my tank and I actually saw the catfish take a chunk out of my oscars head. Needless to say I got rid of the catfish.

I used Melafix to help the oscar and the other fish and now their all doing ok and the oscars wounds have healed nicely

An aggressive upside down catfish... now there's a first for me. Upside down catfish are shy, peaceful, nocturnal schooling fish. I've never even heard of them being aggressive, much less ripping heads off!!!

edit: shouldn't have any problems with the melafix.

Thanks for help! Hope my gourami gets better.. So as the instructions say I will be without carbon filter for about a week. That shouldn't be a problem right. It just basically for trapping odor and keeping the water crystal clear.
