I used to have a really gorgeous hybrid gourami that i loved, but when I upsized fish and tanks, I re-homed him. I am wondering if a 3 spot will be tough enough to live with an oscar, or what kind will?

I really love gourami's and have thought about the giants before, but they get super huge right? Like 5 pounds, or something?

I wouldn't put a Gourami with an Oscar................

If the Gourami is larger he'll pick on the Oscar as if he knows the Oscar will be a threat when it grows up.

The Giant Gouramis do get really big but they'd be fine in a 100 gallon tank I'd think.

Giants get way to big for 100 gallons... need something on the order of atleast 180 gallons for one. If you want a gourami that you can keep with your Oscar a single or pair of snake skin gouramis would be your best bet. They get 8" or so and although not aggressive, won't be pushed around either.

That is true. Giants can grow up to two foot long. They have one one my local MA which is a good 18 inches and it is also very bulky. Much to large for a 100 gallon.

I thought giants would be too big. I have never even seen snakeskins. off to google! :good:

Got to admit not 100% any Gourami is a good idea with an Oscar - but just wanted to say dont get a giant they get .... well giant and need far bigger than a 100 gallon even 180 6x2x2 tank would be too small you just need to see an adult to know why...

Well the snakeskins don't really seem to be tough enough really either. I now have an excuse for a new tank! :- ! I miss having a bossy gourami so much, I am going to just have to get a tank just for them. Serpae tetras are bonny with them right? I have a ten I want to upgrade to a twenty, would a 3 spot fit?

Yes, but it might get its ventral fins nipped at.

Edit:
Most Oscars aren't very aggressive either, easily bullied by smaller fish, eg. convicts. I recommended the snakeskins as I've seen them live quite happily together in the past.

Serpae Tetras are one of the most nippy Tetras. I wouldn'ty trust my Gouramis feelers with Serpaes..............

I would go for some Red or Black Phantoms, Von Rio Flames or Lemon Tetras instead.

Yes most oscars are placid but as most oscars age their aggression kicks in.
Bearing in mind convicts will pick on anything and everything.
