What genre of music are you into?

I really like country. I also like pop... I love older rock. Definitely like country rock as well.
And I do like rap, BUT I'm extremely selective and I don't listen to most due to bad content. Wish rap wasn't as vulgar as it is.

I'm a nerd. I once found some radio playlists from the 1920s. They didn't care about genres back then, and didn't try to steer us based on a couple of songs we like. All genres were mixed. It was kind of cool. Bach followed by blues with jazz up next.

I've been a fanatical listener all my life. I like sincere, smart music. Lyrics matter a lot to me, though if the music is right, I also love music in languages I have no clue about. Somehow, you can hear when music is made because an artist wants to make it, and recordings done for hits and money alone.

I can't stand formula music. Nashville country, metal and gospel make me move away. Smart hip hop, old punk, blues, hot jazz, smart rock, a lot of African and Indian music, and baroque period classical (medieval is interesting too) are what my fish hear through the bubbling.

I was at my dentist's last week, and I think I would have preferred no freezing for the drilling over listening to the formula country they were playing. It was 1970s soft rock reimagined by guys with nose problems.

I love this and totally agree

I have eclectic taste in music. Love most genres of jazz. Saw Kenny Garret last weekend. He is a monster sax player. l love Miles, Monk and Coltrane. I love electric blues; Clapton is an all time favorite. I love 18th and 19th century classical music, especially Bach and Mozart.

You like sincere, smart music...so you're a snob? 😂 I hear what you're saying, my hubby is very similar in that he hates popular generic music. However, there are many sub categories within genres...metal is a great example. There's many categories I hate within the umbrella-term, a lot of it is just noise, but there are lots that are extremely clever and not just on a technical level

I'm kind of primitive in my tastes - I can't stand technically brilliant past a point. It's probably because I am literally tone deaf, not as an expression. I love early jazz - can't remain interested in bebop. I love loud guitars, but technical heavy metal? It loses me. I tip my hat to people who can play that fast, but.

Genres are a problem. Great artists play using several, or take several and invent something new. Someone I know writes songs for Nashville artists. She was a folk artist, and drifted to country when she wanted a better income. She's talented and sensitive, but she studies hits and market trends now. Her songs I've heard recorded sound like a lot of other songs. That kind of formula work is what is going to be devastated by AI as it evolves and begins to pay off for its owners.

I mostly listen to Scottish and Irish traditional-ish stuff. I've been really enjoying Julie Fowlis. Also love a good highland pipe tune. I can't find the one I really want to share, but check these out:

Stuff like that is my go-to. When the mood hits me, I also enjoy classical (especially Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, and baroque composers), 80s rock, folk, country, and Christian folk-rock. But like GaryE, I hate the formulaic stuff. I like something that makes me think, laugh, feel something.
