I recently bought this cute little guy out of a ‘rejects’ tank at a local fish shop where he was weak and being attacked by other fish and I would love to attempt to breed him as I’ve personally never seen a fish like him. I believe he is a platy but am unsure and so were the staff at the shop, is anyone able to identify him so I can find him a potential lady? Thanks

Cross between a variatus platy (Xiphophorus variatus) and a sword tail (Xiphophorus helleri) most likely, maybe even another Xiphophorus species.

Pretty colors! Definitely something in the platy/swordtail genus.

With the Christmas season just wrapping up, your thread title got me humming this to the tune of "What child is this."

What fish is this who swims around
the reject tank so feebly?
Whom fish attack, cutting him no slack,
available quite cheaply

This, this is a platy-sword
I will bring him home, welcome him aboard!
Haste, haste, to color up
The fish, the xiphophooooorus.

(Do people sing this song in England? If not, move along, nothing to see here)

I reckon it´s a cross between a Xiphophorus variatus and a Xiphophorus maculatus. I´m not really directing to swordtail for this color combo does occur as a fancy version of the X.maculatus. His build is not that well.

looks like a funny shaped molly, although a hybrid is definitely a possibility.
interesting colour though, I do like that :)
