that aren't aggressive and can be put in a community tank of 30 gallons.
(currently housing zebra danios, neon tetras, bamboo shrimp, and soon female bettas)
would a pelco do the trick?

a pleco would work but they wont eat that much you better of trying to prevent it that get a plec

Try a bristlenose plec, they will eat a fair amount of algae and stay fairly small, but I also agree with kizno1, you'd be much better finding out what is causing the algae and rectifying it.

I've yet to find anything that prevents algae! I've tried lots of solutiions from my local aquatic shops,- but NONE have worked!

As for algae eaters,- I would recommend a bristlenose plecos. They only grow to around 5" and are prolific algae eaters. They are readily available in all my local stockists,- so I'm sure you shouldn't have too much trouble finding some.

It all depends on what type of algae you have to how you go about preventing it. Alot of algae can be just down to something as simple of low circualtion around the lower levels of your tank.

I used to get green hair algae in my tank until I added a powerhead to increase ariation around the bottom of the tank and it solved the problem for me.

How about Otocinclus? I put 4 in my 60ltr tank and and they worked day and night cleaning the glass, plants and bogwood of algae, until after a few days it had all gone. They are such efficient cleaners that I now have to supplement their diet with algae wafers and pieces of courgette.

I have a 10g tank with 3 apple snails in there (nothing else) and they are constantly eating at algae. Theyre fun to watch, mine breed quite often but i dont let them hatch They can be a bit of a bugger for eating plants though, so if you have a planted aquarium maybe not so good.

Try this first - its a cheap start.

Reduce the hours of daylight your lights are on for.

My lights used to be on all day while I was at work which certainly helped the plants grow but it also helped the algae. I now only have my lights on for half the time I'm at work (fitted a timer) and the algae has dropped right off. The plants are still growing strongly - not quite so fast but that just makes less work with pruning!

Try that first coz you may find you dont need to add another fish.
