I agree that you could put a betta in a non-heated tank as long as your normal room temp is in the 70 and up range. the tank temp will be a little warmer because of the lights and the heat the filter pump creates. I had one betta tank set up for about 4 months without a heater and it stayed right around 76 degrees all the time. I only put a heater in for the summer when I knew I would be running the AC and thought the temp may be too cool. I will take it back out (or just unplug it) this winter when I am running the furnace.Durbkat said:Bettas don't need a heater and a goldfish would be a very bad idea because the rule of thumb is 20 gallons for the first goldfish and 10 extra gallons for each additional goldfish because they poop alot even more than a common pleco and the goldfish gets up to 8" long and live up to 20 years.
