Hi guys. Just got my self a new tank. I used to keep tropical fish before but have never kept cichlids. The tank I have has red blood parrot fish and african cichlids in it. I don't know what the yellow cichlids are. But what fish can I keep with these fish?

Please help
Thanks

Hi sorry for the late response. I have a 260 liter tank. Any ideas??? Thanks for your help.

Correct me if i am wrong, but aren't blood parrots South american? African cichlids require different water parameters than south american

The tank has been running for 4 years and the parrot and cichlids have been living together since then. They have grown up together fine. And that are all healthy.

are the yellow fish yellow labs with a black stripe on dorsal fin I think?

They are an odd mix but I guess if theyve lived together this long then fine. What I would suggest is no more cichlids.

It deoends on what fish you are after, if you want colourful community then you'll have to rehome the fish you have etc

You could maybe add some barbs to that tank if your after some movement in there, a syndontis catfish maybe.

Depends on what you want to achieve with your tank?

So its a new tank huh?

That has been running for 4 years? Which is it? Did you get a new tank, or have they been fine for 4 years? a 4 year running tank is a long time to have never kept cichlids in this cichlid tank.

Right. Let's clear this up lol. It's a new tank for me as I rehomed it. The tank it self has been running for 4 years. I ve had tropical fish in the past but I got this tank with cichlids and the parrot fish in it. Hope that makes sence lol. Sorry should of been more clear from the beginning.

Thanks simonas. They are yellow with the black fins. I want a colorful tank. But I have seen these size tanks with alot more cichlids and I only have 7? Why cant I put more cichlids in mine

It would be a question of saftey for your parrot to me. I had a parrot & jack dempsy in a tank with malawis(african cichlids) for a while when I was starting out. The dempsy and parrot banded together and protected each other from the malawis. If they are getting along now then great but adding new ones will change the balance of power in te tank for lack of a better term and your parrot may become a snack in the new hierchy. Any fish you add do it in numbers and make sure you rearrange your tank a bit as it throws off the aggression a little.

Thanks for all your help. I got some more cichlids last week. And there all doing fine. Plus some clown loachs. The tanks looking good. @ binge. The parrots are fine. The cichlids get out of the way for them. Their quite big. They dint get hassled nor do they hassle any of the other fish. But thanks again
