what filter would be best for a juwel 180 i was looking at a FLUVAL 4 PLUS INTERNAL FILTER but would an external be better if so which one?

From what I hear thats not a massive loss as the juwel filter is more designed for plant than lots of fish. i'd get an external so you can have more room inside the tank and the ehiem is excellent from reviews I've seen expensive but youpay for quality. Hope others give you more options Goodluck x

Hiya,

I've got 2 Juwel 180's and both are running Eheim's - one has a 2324 (bought off this forum), and the other's a 2026 as I needed the extra flow/power as it's running in my Malawi tank - both are great, silent, efficient, easy to maintain.

Afraid I don't have any experience with other external's.

I dont mind the fluval externals a fluval 204 or 205 would be good on that tank or maybee an 304 or 305 to over filter, the fluvals are good for cost and are simple and work nicly but the Eheims are best but obviously cost more.

the 2324 is a thermo filter does this mean you dont need a heater in the tank as this will heat the water

That's right - I do keep a spare heater just in case, but it works great, no problems to date, and easy to adjust (a dial on the side of the filter box).

Hi,

I Just got my Vision 180 and already ripped out the internal Juwel filter.
I have got couple of friends who runs the eheim and they fully recommends them as run trouble free.
I went OTT on the filter and got the 2128 for £159 inc media it's only £15 more dearer than the 2126 hence I went for the more powerful version.

I've got the Vision 260 and use a Fluval external canister filter but I have the Jewel filter running as well. Don't see anything wrong with the Juwel filter, it has loads of sponges and a decent power head, my nitrates are really low and the tank is probably overstocked. Don't particularly rate the fluval external, have to say though. We have 2, one on the goldfish tank and the one on the main tropical tank and both of them worked brilliantly at first but then the flow seems to die on them, no matter how much you rinse the media, clean the impeller, etc. Wouldn't buy another one. :/
