Hello I`m going to get an external filter for my rio 180 and was wondering what type/model would be best to get. I have £70-£100 to spend on a filter.

Also when I get the filter what way will I change over from the internal to external.

Thanks for all your help

I'd go for an Eheim 2215 or 2217, depending on how heavily stocked your tank is.

The Eheim classic series last forever. Both are excellent filters. Get the "plus" versions to get the double taps etc., and you will also have to budget for some ceramic biomedia to replace some of the sponges. But that is still within the budget you have.

As for changing over the filters, you can simply put the filter media from the Juwel filter into your new cannister filter, along with new media. The old media will "seed" the new media with the right bacteria.

here's a good thread that might be of use....

Eheim are solid reliable workhorses, I have Tetratec EX700, very easy to set up and maintain, also very reliable, if you're thinking about buying online have a look at warehouse aquatics or zooplus, have used both and are very good service etc :good:
