1 red tail black shark
1 plec
1 raphael catfish
3 peppered corys

1 silver dollar
5 tiger barbs

130 litre tank, not sure what other fish to add, maybe a school of tetras, any ideas thanks, Mark

im not positive but im pretty sure the person who asked about what kind of plec was curious due to your tank size. It is to small for a common plec which will get huge.

You've got a 4 foot tank thats 130L? What are the dimensions? I can see why there'd be confusion, it'd need to be 4ftx1ftx1 and a bit ft which is a bit of an odd size.

And insulting the people you want advice from? Bright move, really getting into the whole 'share your knowledge and do others a favour' mood that runs through these forums.

its a 5 inch fish....that will grow into a very big fish...

too big for a 4 foot tank

Common plecy is currently 5 inches. In 18 months he should be 18 inches......see why the other members are kicking up a fuss about suitability? If he isn't at least over 1foot, he will be stunted, meaning that he won't last as long as he should. Common plecos should last at least 30 years, so anything less and you show that you had him in a tank too small for him :sad:

The other member was not
change(ing) the subject onto utter bull
as you surgest, they were pointing out a fact that you should have been aware of :good:

Anyhow, back to the matter in hand;

130l, is roughly 26 gallons, so you have 26inches of fish as a stocking maximum for a tank that is less than 6 months old. After that, you can push up numbers to between 39-52inches of adult fish, as a maximum depending on what filtration you have.

Lets break-down the space you have used at the moment, and then look at what issues you may run into, mainly the weakness of the inch per gallon rule when dealing with larger fish;

1 red tail black shark 6inches
1 plec 18inches
1 raphael catfish ?inches, unsure with this fish
3 peppered corys 3X4inches, 12inches
1 silver dollar 8inches
5 tiger barbs 5X4inches, 20 inches

That means that you have 64 inches of adult fish, when all your fish are full grown, not including the raphael catfish. This shows you to be overstocked at present even with fantastic filtration. I would not advise adding more fish to this tank, and would even go as far as surgesting to you that you look for new homes for a few. Depending on the raphael catfish, the tetras may later become a light snack, also, again depending on the size and type of catfish, the tiger barbs may also become a meaty morsle of food :crazy:

This is all before you realise that the larger fish in there will not obey the inche per gallon rule, requiring more space due to the fact that they are messier than most common community fish.

Please consider reducing the stocking of the tank, rather than increasing it.

All the best

i have a 4ft by 1 by 1 and half tank, i will be adding more fish thankyou, and obviously the plec will be moved when it outgrows the tank, something that doesnt need to be said cos it is blatantly obvious, also the catfish will not eat no other fish in the tank thankyou peeps

and rabbut my tank is 37gallons thankyou

Note to self, don't help this poster again unless absolutely necissary.

You didn't state your level of experience or fishkeeping knowlage. In these circumstances most automatically assume that you know nothing. If you take insult, point out issues you know about in your theads, then you avoid this issue.

Best regards under the circumstances

Edit, you quoted 130l capasity which is 26 gallons. Your tank at 4X1X1.5 is acctualy 170l, or 37 gallons. it helps if you post the correct information

Don't know if we are thinking US or OK Gallons here... but 130L is around 34 USG and 170L is around 45 USG. I only think US gallons because I am from Canada... and they are closer... anywho, it would be weird if the susposed inch per gallon rule applied to 1 inch per US gal or 1 inch per UK gallon... as they are not the same rule.

That is a very good point. This is one of the many floors that are in this rule, appart from the fact that a lont of popular fish cannot be applied to it. I was under the imperssion that it was one inch per UK gallon, but it may be me that is wrong...
