Hi there, I have a three foot tank with two goldfish in it (dont ask me what type) they have fance tails but not the gross bubble eyes or anything like that. I know they need alot of space thats why I only have two in a "big" tank.

But the tank looks really bare, even with plants and rocks. what other creatures can i get? i mean anything, doesnt even have to be fish?

what is the volume of the tank?

any of the following should be ok

white cloud minnows
rosy minnows
zebra or leopard Danios
weather loach
ramshorn snails

Goldfish with 2 tails are called fantails and those with a single tail are called comet or common goldfish. The comet goldfish has a single tail but a long one. The common goldfish has a single but short tail.

It depends on how big the goldfish are but generally they get too big for most small coldwater fishes, and the bigger coldwater fishes get too agro to go with goldfish. If the goldies are small (less than 2 inches) then you could try white cloud mountain minnows, bitterlings, medakas or glass shrimp.
If the goldfish are bigger than a 2inches then I would leave the tank with goldfish only.

amano shrimp would be another idea
as for the white cloud minnows you could try either the long fin or golden varieties as something different

Thanks for the replies guys.

Just a couple of things. Some of the stuff suggested to me is tropical stuff.

I should stress this is a coldwater tank and by that i mean about 10 degrees celcius in winter. are there shrimp and snails that will enjoy this temp?

thanks guys.

Actually everything on this thread are actually either a coldwater or sub-tropical species (except the amano shrimp which i think are classed as tropical)

I have actually kept the following in a pond with goldfish: rosy minnows, weather loach
and at work we keep the white cloud mountain minnows in unheated tanks that i've seen drop to about 14C)

zebra or leopard Danios? arent they tropical?

any suggestions for coldwater shrimps?

i always kept my amanos in coldwater tanks before i moved to tropical so they will be fine in a lot of LFS they are sold from coldwater tanks as are the wcminnows

The main point to remember when wanting to add shrimp is to make sure you do not use any products that contain copper in your tank as as soon as you add the shrimp they will die , some plant food contain trace amounts 0.001% copper and these amounts dont seem to affect the shrimp
