Hi all, was thinking today my fish must be really board with just eating flake food what else can I feed them ? My stocking is

2 angels
1 Bolivian ram
2 red rainbow fish
15 black neon tetra
3 cardinal tetra
1 common plec ( eats alge wafers)

I've seen these blister packs of frozen blood worm etc could I use these ?

yup u can use the blister packs. they also appreciate live foods if you can get them. try some shelled peas or a piece of cucumber as a treat. also tubiflex 'cubes' are widely accepted. remember to use your flake as a staple food and the others as treats as they do not contain much nutritional value.

hope that helps a bit.

L :good:

Bloodworms, California black worms, baby brine shrimp, algae tabs, or mosquito larvae are some other food that your fish will appreciate

Boil some lettuce and let it sink to the bottom or weigh it down with some gravel. My guppies, shrimp, and kuhli loaches tear that to pieces! :hyper:

I feed mine with frozen blood worm every otherday for my frogs but everything else go nuts for it lol. I'm guna try some live treats for them soon just got to find somewhere that stocks them

I feed mine dried blood worm (still trying to locally source live food). But I found that when feeding shelled peas to the shrimp, the fish love them too. They also pick at the algae wafers. Haven't tried cucumber yet, but I will, especially as I have snails now :)

Like humans, a good balanced diet is best - a bit of flake, a bit of live, a bit of veg.

All of the above, especially prawns. My angels love Hikari cichlid gold too. There are a lot of frozen foods on the market, not just blood worm, don't feed it too often though. Garden worms are also munched down, just be careful about possible ferts/weed killers/contamination that's in the garden. I get mine from my compost bin.

Carrots are good too.

The best foods are live foods most of them are easy to Culture.

Micro Worm, water worm, and banana worm,is good for very small fry.
it's almost as good as baby brine shrimp
Grindal Worm, White Worm, earth worms and Wingless Fruit Flies is good food for adult fish.

Daphnia water fleas) can be Cultured out side in water buts or large containers or can be collected from stagnant fish or duck ponds. Daphnia can be collected all year round also
Available throughout the summer months are blood worm and mosquito larvae

just fed mine a earthworm (chopped up) they are loving it, especially the platys. The wife wasnt to keen though. LOL
